One-handed shooting with instructorWhy Take This Course?

Even if you have never held a handgun, you will be able to safely handle, shoot, clean, and store a semi-automatic pistol and revolver after you complete this course. If you are already familiar with handguns, the shooting skills section of this course can help you become a more accurate, faster handgun marksman.

This course is low-pressure, low-stress, and allows you to ask questions as the course progresses. You will not be asked to do anything that you are uncomfortable doing.

You do not need to own a handgun to take this course. In fact, this class teaches you how to choose your first handgun! Both semi-automatic and revolver-type handguns are available to borrow. If you already own a handgun, you are welcome to use it during the range session.

Course Description

The NRA Basic Pistol class teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is at least 8 hours long (divided into two sessions) and includes both classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.

NRA Basic Pistol materialsStudents learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.

Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be presented with a certificate that can be used to apply for your Colorado Concealed Carry Permit.

Prerequisites - NRA Basic Pistol

Although there are no pre-requisites or age restrictions for the course, a general minimum age suggestion would be 12 years old. This may vary significantly depending upon the specific student's maturity level and attention span.
